Dr. Jane McCarthy Assumes Role as Interim Executive Associate Dean

UNLV College of Education Dean Dr. Kim Metcalf recently announced Dr. Jane McCarthy, Professor in the Teaching & Learningdepartment, will serve as Interim Executive Associate Dean of the college for the upcoming academic year. The position was made available when former Executive Associate Dean Dr. Cyndi Giorgis stepped down to accept a Dean position at the University of Texas, El Paso.

Dr. McCarthy has worked in a similar capacity before, serving as Interim Dean of the College of Education from 2005-2007. In addition, Dr. McCarthy has been deeply involved with the college and university, serving in various roles such as Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Chair of the UNLV Faculty Senate, and the College of Education’s Strategic Planning Task Force.

In addition to her service to the college and university communities, Dr. McCarthy is also active with K-12 school districts in Southern Nevada, national organizations such as the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the National Center for Accelerated Schools, the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE), and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). Dr. McCarthy’s research interests include Classroom Management, Cross-Cultural Studies, Indian Education, Rural Education, and School Reform.
